STRIKE: ASUU LAUTECH to meet stakeholders for sensitization today

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso branch will today Thursday hold a Town Hall meeting with stakeholders to sensitize them on the impending strike action by the union.

Those expected include parents, students, guardians, traders, cab and okada operators and the generality of the people.

“The Town Hall meeting is to further sensitize ordinary Nigerians on why ASUU may embark on strike again. People need to know so that we won’t be seen as insensitive and so that they can prevail on government in respect of our demands. We are not self-serving but there is need to reposition our university system,” secretary of ASUU LAUTECH branch, Professor Toyin Abegunrin said in a chat with ogbomosoinsightonline.com during a rally by the union Wednesday.

The meeting is scheduled for 10am at the 250 Lecture Theatre, opposite Senate Building.

ASUU is reluctant to declare another strike action it’s stressed but the it may become inevitable and that is why it emphasizes in a press release, “In order to avert another looming crisis in Nigeria University system, our Union is calling on well-meaning Nigerians, opinion leaders, traditional and religious leaders, media, labour movements, students’ groups, artisans and civil society organisations to prevail on federal and state governments to the legitimate demands of our union and allow peace to reign.”
