Threads has officially introduced Communities, a new feature that gives users more personalized and engaging spaces to connect over shared passions. From basketball to K-pop and TV shows, the update is set to reshape how people interact on the platform.
The rollout builds on existing features like custom feeds and topic tags. Still, Communities takes it a step further by creating dedicated hubs where users can exchange ideas, share insights, and stay engaged with discussions that matter most to them.

Communities Create Stronger Connections
Since its launch, Threads has seen millions of people gather around their favorite interests. With Communities, users can now join public, casual spaces centered around more than 100 trending topics, including NBA/WNBA Threads, Book Threads, and K-pop Threads.
Membership is fully visible on profiles, meaning the groups you join will be pinned in your feeds menu and tagged on your profile. This transparency makes it easier for others to discover your passions while strengthening your identity within the Threads ecosystem.
Adding to the personalization, each community comes with its own custom Like emoji. For example, Book Threads features a stack of books emoji, while basketball groups include a sports-themed icon. These small but creative touches aim to foster a sense of belonging and community identity.
Discover and Explore Communities
Finding a community is simple. Users can either search by name or tap on community tags that appear on posts in their feed. A three-dot indicator next to a topic tag shows that a dedicated community exists. Joining is just as easy — a single tap on the “Join” button grants access.
Currently, Threads is testing Communities across the most popular interests, but the feature is expected to expand rapidly, with more topics being added in the coming months.
What’s Next for Threads Communities
Threads isn’t stopping here. The platform announced upcoming features, including:
- Contributor badges for standout community members who actively shape discussions.
- Improved ranking systems within Communities and the “For You” feed, ensuring that the most relevant and engaging posts surface first.
- Additional personalization tools are designed to make conversations more meaningful.
The introduction of Communities marks a major step in Threads’ mission to create a fun, interactive, and topic-driven social experience. With personalized spaces and growing features, the app continues to evolve as a hub for people to connect, share, and discover like-minded voices.
